We are seeking a dedicated and versatile Assistant Manager to oversee daily operations in both our Pet Shop and Thrift Store. This unique role involves managing two dynamic environments that provide critical support and opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about animal care, retail management, and working directly with our participants and volunteers to ensure smooth and effective operations.

 

The Role

 

Manager Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage direct reports, providing clear direction, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with and mentor team members with developmental disabilities, adapting communication styles and providing patient guidance and support as needed.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive work environment that celebrates all team members' contributions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including conducting monthly life safety inspections.
  • Oversee inventory management and supply orders for both the Pet Shop and Thrift Store.
  • Provide direction and support to volunteers, ensuring they are effectively integrated into daily operations.
  • Work with participants to help them achieve their personal and professional goals within the work environment.

 

Pet Shop

  • Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, bathing, and administering necessary medical treatments.
  • Oversee the adoption process, including responding to applications, setting up meet and greets, and coordinating with foster families.
  • Organize the shop for optimal display, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment.
  • Perform weekly and monthly cleaning duties, including washing cages and pens and managing foster care needs.

 

Thrift Store

  • Oversee the intake, sorting, and pricing of donations, ensuring items are appropriately displayed.
  • Manage the shop’s organization, including cycling out old inventory and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment.
  • Evaluate items for potential sale on eBay, ensuring high-value donations are appropriately processed.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years of experience in retail management, animal care, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage inventory and maintain clean, safe environments.
  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently while also being an effective team player.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
  • Physically capable of performing tasks that require bending, lifting, and walking, with the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Proficiency in writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including accurate typing, navigating websites, entering and recalling data, using word processors and spreadsheet software, managing emails, and familiarity with digital communication etiquette and techniques.
  • Experience with Square Point of Sale (POS) or similar systems is a plus.
