Description

Lambs Farm is dedicated to helping people with developmental disabilities lead productive, happy lives and connecting with the human spirit in us all. We are looking for Recreation Specialist and this is flexible full time position from morning to evening during the week. 

Responsibilities

Recreation Specialists at Lambs Farm support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, both individuals that reside on our beautiful grounds, and individuals that live in the community, joining us for meaningful programs and services.  Recreation Specialists work together as a team to develop a diverse array of quality activities, that engage the participants in health and wellness, athletics, music, theater, dances, special events, arts, crafts, and any other core areas that participants find meaningful and engaging. Services are developed for individuals from young adult to seniors, to include individuals that may utilize walkers or wheel chairs. Recreation Specialists create opportunities both on our grounds, including using our full scale gymnasium and outdoor track and green spaces, as well as taking recreation into the greater Lake County community, meaning there is a need to have a drivers license, and the ability to be comfortable driving vehicles up to the size of a 15 passenger van.  Recreation Specialists receive training to become certified in Illinois as a Director Support Person, for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities, and will need to support individuals in applicable personal care and support needs.  Recreation Specialists are involved in Special Olympic sports training and coaching. 

Requirements

  • High School Diploma with some related experience
  • Coursework, degree, and/or experience with physical/special education, coaching, recreation, wellness, or related field preferred
  • Valid Illinois driver's license, with a good driving record
  • Ability to physically train and assist persons in sports and fitness activities
  • Direct Support Person (DSP) certification must be completed within 120 days of employment.
